Description
北米西部乾燥地域に原産する掌状ヤシ。高温多湿な熱帯では生育せず、温帯、亜熱帯気候を好む。葉は直径1～1.5mの掌状に中裂し、裂片は下垂し、縁片に繊維糸を付ける。乾燥に強く、痩せ地にも耐え、潮風や大気汚染にも強い。
別名オキナヤシ。ワシントンヤシとワシントンヤシモドキの主な違いは幹の太さ。日本での主流は両種の交配種で、幹周り約120cm、高耐寒性を備えている。
