Planting Guide

Planting Suitability and Hardiness

Use this page as a practical checklist before asking us for a planting recommendation or a site-specific quotation.

Three things to check first

Winter minimum temperature

Consider not only the headline minimum but also frost pockets, cold wind, and radiational cooling.

Sunlight and drainage

Yuccas, agaves, and many subtropical plants fail more often from poor drainage than from cold alone.

Plant size and handling

The same species can behave differently depending on pot size, root ball handling, and delivery method.

Three practical hardiness groups

Cold-tolerant selections

Often workable in well-drained sites down to roughly -6 to -7C.

Typical examples: Yucca rostrata, Yucca filifera

Warm-region landscape plants

Best for protected or warm sites, sometimes with light frost protection.

Examples: variegated yucca, Furcraea, cycads

Protected or container use

Plants that should be discussed individually for colder regions or exposed sites.

Examples: Adenium, Bougainvillea, tropical foliage plants

What to prepare before you contact us

  • Site prefecture / city and the actual planting location
  • Approximate winter minimum temperature and frost conditions
  • Sun exposure, wind exposure, and drainage condition
  • Desired size, quantity, and preferred schedule
  • Site photos or drawings if available

Planting suitability changes with microclimate. We confirm the actual site conditions and specimen size before giving a final recommendation.
